Bluestar 8 is a local bus service, and booking a seat in advance is not possible. You can purchase tickets directly from the bus driver using cash or contactless payment methods, including tap on/tap off. Alternatively, for convenience and often better value, tickets can be bought via the Bluestar mobile app, which offers a range of options including single, day, multi-day, and period passes.

Concessionary passes are accepted on Bluestar 8.

Accepted concessionary bus passes: ENCTS (English National Concessionary Travel Scheme).

English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes are accepted on Bluestar route 8. This includes older person's and disabled person's passes.

For Southampton older persons' passes, travel is valid between 09:00 and 23:59 Monday to Friday for journeys starting within the Southampton City area, and at any time at weekends. For travel outside Southampton, the pass is valid from 09:30 to 23:00 Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays across the rest of England.

Southampton disabled persons' passes can be used between 09:00 and 23:59 Monday to Friday, and all day on weekends and public holidays.

Hampshire County Council older persons' bus passes are valid for travel on buses in Hampshire between 09:30 and 23:00 Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays. They can be used in England outside of Hampshire from 09:30 Monday to Friday and all day weekends and Bank Holidays.

Hampshire disabled persons' bus passes are valid all day, every day for journeys starting within Hampshire (excluding Southampton).

Generally, for ENCTS passes, off-peak travel is free from 09:30 until 23:00 Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and bank holidays.
