Concessions & free bus passes

The Lakes X8 does not accept concessionary bus passes.

You can not use your concessionary bus pass to travel on The Lakes X8. There are other great value tickets available for you.

While Stagecoach in North Lancashire generally accepts English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes, Welsh concessionary bus passes, and Scotland National Entitlement Cards on most local bus services for free travel, there has been information suggesting that the X8 route specifically may not accept national concessionary passes, potentially offering a discount on explorer tickets instead. The Lancashire County Council's concessionary travel scheme also indicates that it may not apply to excursions, tours, tourist, or express services, which might be relevant to a route named 'The Lakes X8' serving the Lake District. For accepted passes, ENCTS holders can typically travel free after 09:30 on weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays, though specific local council rules can vary. Scotland National Entitlement Cards are valid at any time of day on local bus services in Scotland and on cross-border services to/from Carlisle and Berwick-upon-Tweed (but not within these towns).
