No advanced booking: just turn up and go!

Northern operates a walk-up and walk-on service on the Lakes Line, meaning you do not need to book a seat in advance to travel. You can purchase your ticket at any staffed station along the route. If you are boarding at an unstaffed station or if the ticket office is closed, you can buy your ticket directly from the conductor on the train.

Concessions & free bus passes

Lakes Line does not accept concessionary bus passes.

You can not use your concessionary bus pass to travel on Lakes Line. There are other great value tickets available for you.

English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes issued in Cumbria, where the Lakes Line is located, are generally not valid for free train travel on Northern services. Concessionary passes from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland (60+ SmartPass, 65+ Senior SmartPass), and the London Freedom Pass are not applicable to the Lakes Line in Cumbria, England. While these specific bus passes are not accepted for free travel, other concessionary discount schemes, such as the Disabled Persons Railcard and Senior Railcard, are accepted on Northern services, including the Lakes Line, offering discounted fares.
