Book your journey
on Tyne Valley Line

No advanced booking: just turn up and go!

Northern operates a 'walk up and walk on' service, meaning you can typically purchase tickets at the station, online, or via their app and board the train without a prior seat reservation. While you can buy various ticket types, including Advance tickets for potential savings, specific seat booking is not offered on Northern services. You simply choose your desired service and find an available seat upon boarding.

Concessions & free bus passes

Tyne Valley Line does not accept concessionary bus passes.

Accepted concessionary bus passes: ENCTS (English National Concessionary Travel Scheme).

English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes issued by Tyne and Wear authorities are partially valid on Northern Rail services operating on the Tyne Valley Line. Holders of these passes can travel for 50p on services between Newcastle and Metrocentre/Blaydon. This reduced fare is generally available from 9:30 am Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and on public holidays. Disabled residents of Tyne and Wear with an 'All Day Concessionary Travel Pass' can travel for 50p on this specific section all day, every day. Standard ENCTS passes from other regions are generally not valid for free or discounted train travel on Northern services covering the full length of the Tyne Valley Line.
