Citylink 975 - Glasgow, Loch Lomond & Crainlarich to Oban
The Scottish Citylink route 975 is a scenic bus service that connects Glasgow with Oban, passing through some of Scotland’s most picturesque landscapes. Starting from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow, the journey embarks on a northwesterly route, providing passengers with a blend of urban and rural views as it exits the bustling city.
The first significant stop is Dumbarton, a historic town known for its castle, which sits atop a volcanic rock overlooking the River Clyde. As the bus leaves Dumbarton, it continues along the A82, running parallel to the western shore of Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest freshwater loch.
This part of the journey offers breathtaking views of the loch’s serene waters, framed by the rolling hills of the Trossachs National Park. The bus makes a stop in the village of Luss, a popular spot for tourists with its charming cottages and scenic walks along the loch.
Continuing north, the route passes through Crianlarich, a small village at the junction of the A82 and A85, and a gateway to the Highlands. Crianlarich is often referred to as a crossroads, where the railway and road network converge, making it a significant stop for travellers.
The journey then progresses through the scenic Glen Lochy, passing through Dalmally, a small village nestled in the Highlands. This part of the route is characterised by its dramatic mountain scenery and tranquil lochs.
One of the highlights of the journey is the stop at the Falls of Cruachan, where passengers can alight to explore the nearby hydroelectric power station and enjoy the sight of the cascading waters. This area is a testament to the harmonious blend of natural beauty and engineering.
The final leg of the journey takes passengers to Oban, a bustling port town known as the “Gateway to the Isles.” Oban offers stunning views of the sea, with ferries departing regularly to the Hebrides.
The 975 route provides a comfortable and scenic way to experience the diverse landscapes of western Scotland, from the urban sprawl of Glasgow to the rugged beauty of the Highlands and the coastal charm of Oban.
